Tun Ahmad Sarji said the global financial and economic crisis had much affected the performance of the local bourse and thus, ASN 2.
“The benchmark Kuala Lumpur Composite Index saw a drop of 9.33 percent from 1,186.57 points recorded on June 30, 2008 to 1,075.84 points on June 29, 2009 . The KLCI had also dropped to its lowest level in three years at 829.41 points on October 29, 2008 .
Sentiment was also weak with the local bourse trading within a narrow band during the period under review and even though the KLCI had rebounded lately, a clearer indication would much depend on the global turnaround expected in the second half of 2009”, he said.
Up until June 29, 2009 , ASN 2 has recorded a gross income of RM10.81 million. Of the amount, profit from the sale of investment contributed RM2.31 million or 21.37 percent, dividend income from investee companies contributed RM6.69 million or 61.89 percent while the remaining income of RM1.81 million or 16.74 percent is derived from investments in short term instruments.
All transactions for ASN 2 at the ASNB offices and agents have been suspended from June 24, 2009 to June 30, 2009 to facilitate the calculation of income distribution.
The income distribution of ASN 2 will be calculated based on the unit holdings on June 30, 2009 which is the last day of the financial year of the fund. It will be re-invested into additional units of ASN 2 which will be automatically credited into the unit holders’ accounts, based on the NAV on June 30, 2009 .
For the unitholders who subscribed to the ASN 2 through the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Members’ Scheme, the income distribution will be credited directly into their respective EPF accounts.
The income distribution statement and fund’s annual report will be sent to unit holders beginning end of August, 2009.
